Why is it that people old enough to have learned something from life are often the ones least valued in our society today? And why, if over half the population in the United States is over the age of 50, is there such an obsession with youth? You’d think we’d be celebrating our wisdom and taking pride in our wrinkles as proof of what we’ve survived. But, unfortunately that’s not the case.

There aren’t many films that feature women over the age of 30, and the few that do don’t cast the lead roles out of Portland. Which is why Hot Flash Films was created. When I realized that I wanted another shot at acting, I knew the only person who would give me a chance was myself. New to Portland, I found two other actresses that were established in the community and through our friendship the story for Not Dead Yet. came to be.

It also takes a community like Portland to make a film like ours; an ultra-low budget SAG feature that marries creative new talent with seasoned professionals. Our goal is to speak to that segment of the population that still has dreams and the desire to express them. Because even though it’s never too late, it does get harder the longer one waits.

Entertainment should inspire us to fulfill our destinies, to find the courage within necessary to overcome whatever gets in our way. We hope to make more such films in the future, ones that celebrate potential at any age.
